Nano Summit Co., Ltd.

Social implementation of nanomaterials and Raising funds to realize a carbon-neutral society

October 19, 2023

Nano Summit, a company that researches and develops intermediate processing technologies (dispersion, mixing, and control) for nanomaterials, announces that it has completed a capital increase of approximately 250 million yen through a third-party allocation of new shares from investment funds managed by Fiducia, Inc.(Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Representative Directors: Takumi Shibata and Tokihiko Shimizu) and UTokyo Innovation Platform Co., Ltd. (Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Kosuke Ueda).

Succeeded in developing technology to control dispersion and intermolecular forces, which will be a breakthrough in the industrial use of carbon nanotubes, and put them into practical use.

The development of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and other carbon-based nanomaterials (single-walled CNTs, multi-walled CNTs, carbon nanohorns, etc.) discovered in Japan has been underway since the 1980s, but their applications are still limited. In order to maximize the properties of CNTs and utilize them in industry, dispersion and compositing have been a major challenge.

Through basic research and industry-academia collaborative projects since our founding in 2009, we have succeeded in developing intermolecular force control technology to solve this technical problem. We have also obtained a patent and are starting full-scale commercialization.

Developing “composite of nanomaterials” technology to realize processing processes with low environmental burden and high added value of recycled materials

Our technology is a ”platform for practical application of nanomaterials” that can give high performance to the entire material by performing intermediate processing on existing nanomaterials and mixing them with the material like an additive.

Based on this technology, we are proceeding with the commercialization of carbon-based nanomaterials such as carbon fiber-reinforced products and conductive inks, and have already achieved results in fields such as sporting goods.

In the future, we will focus on developing not only carbon-based nanomaterials but also ” compositing nanomaterials” technology to realize processing processes with less environmental burden and high value-added recycled materials.

In addition to the growing need for environmentally friendly components in various fields to realize a carbon-neutral society in Japan as soon as possible, we are also working to strengthen our corporate alliances, encouraged by requests for cooperation in the development of next-generation processing processes utilizing nanomaterials in the electronics industry.

With this procurement, we will strengthen our technological development and application development toward the realization of nanomaterial composites, and aim to strengthen alignment with companies that possess nanomaterial elemental technologies.

Comments from investors

Fiducia, Inc. :

We expect this Japanese company to possess world-changing technology. Carbon nanotubes are expected to be used as energy-saving heat-generating materials, components for precision electronic devices, materials to strengthen the strength and flexibility of plastics, and functional materials for energy storage. We hope to contribute not only as an investor but also as an advisor.

Innovation Platform for The University of Tokyo (UTokyo Innovation Platform Co., Ltd.) :

With the achievement of carbon neutrality globally and the increasing sophistication of semiconductors and information infrastructure for the information society, the demand for new materials and nanomaterials for social implementation is rapidly increasing. Japan’s materials industry was originally highly competitive internationally and is highly regarded by global companies. Based on Nano Summit’s advanced technological capabilities in carbon nanotube dispersion, we expect that the deployment of our technology to various applications will be a major driving force to promote the social implementation of nanomaterials and help maintain and strengthen the competitiveness of Japanese industry.
